HOW TO OVERCOME YOUR FEARS


Everyone at  some time has been held by this strong force, fear, that destabilizes or incarcerates a person. From my conviction, fear is one of the worst things in life, because it can be ferocious stumbling block. Why would anyone be afraid?...Surprisingly as it may sound, we may have fears of failure, fears of success, fear of diving, fear of flying, fear of handling money and so on. Deciding to take action and moving forward, is the first step towards freeing one self from whatever it is that confines you.
I took a few hours and I made a list of the things I was afraid of, including the most insignificant fears I had. I would encourage you to do same. I was puzzled by some of the things that held me in shackles and affected me both positively and negatively. The most significant of my fears were fear of failure and fear of success which I knew I had and I know a lot of people do too. I deduced that this fear of failure has been responsible for reducing my ability to think of success. After the process of recognizing my fears, I had to work to conquer it, to avoid life's opportunities slipping from me again. Yes, they were stolen because I didn't recognize these fears at first talk more of conquering them.
Overcoming fear is a great liberator, it sets you free from whatever weight that is on you. I will share with you, some of the few ways I used to  overcome my fear and I hope it would be of great help to you.





  • Take action: After recognizing your fears, take a step by breaking the ice; do what you think you can't do. Afraid of reading? Start by reading little books or pages. Afraid of flying? Try it once or twice. You may not know your potentials till you take action.





  • Understand that you aren't alone: They are so many people who are faced in similar situation as yours or had succeeded in that situation. I give you an instance, in school when a course is been said to have a high failure rate; I say to myself, "I am not alone, and the whole class can't fail this course, there have always been people who passed this course".




  • The power of visualizing and learning: I tell you, visualizing helps in confronting fears. Imagining an outcome you desire breaks down those hooks of fears, and help you work towards your desire. Learning helps confront fears and it works simultaneously with visualizing. I came across a friend who told me he overcomes most of his fears by visualizing and learning. He gave an instance that he couldn't make a speech in public, but he overcame that fear by pretending to speak in public and learning how to speak in public. Most of our fears are overcomed when we learn about a subject or situation.

  • Don't compete with others: It is said that competition can be healthy in a work place but if you can't stand the heat, compete with yourself instead. A lot of fear arise because of unnecessary competition with others. Why don't you channel your energy and attention on self growth?






  • Draw strength from your fears: Fears are great motivators; you can convert the strength of your fears to achieve what you desire. For instance, a fear of failure can be converted to a gold plate of success. Do not let your fears cripple you.






  • Use a friend: This works thousand times for me; when I am afraid of a situation, subject or anything at all, I tend to rely on a friend who helps enlighten me or calm my nerves down. Get a friend you can trust, a friend who's familiar with the situation or subject. This helps break the ice berg of the fear. 


These are just some few ways of overcoming fears, a combination of these tips would yield great results. Have great self-confidence. Trust, believe & feel that you are a talented and powerful individual. Be courageous!!
